More doctors making house calls, Concierge Medical Care is up

Sarasota, Florida - Instead of Doctor Daniel Cooper's patients seeing him, he's the one making house calls.

As he carries a large brown leather doctor's bag, reminiscent of the ones used when doctors visited patients at home, Cooper stops by new patient John Sullivan's home for a consultation. Sullivan says he and his wife spent about a year thinking about turning to a concierge medical service.

Lose the hat and glasses? Venice council votes on bank "dress code"

Venice, Florida -- Venice City Council considered a resolution that would have called for banks to adopt a policy that would limit what customers can wear when entering a bank.

The council vote ended in a tie, meaning it didn't pass.

The policy came up for consideration in an attempt to cut down on the number of bank robberies.

Civil rights leader Julian Bond visits Sarasota

Sarasota, Florida - A nationally known civil rights leader visited Sarasota over the weekend.

Truvine Missionary Baptist Church  hosted a worship service to honor Julian Bond, who stood beside Martin Luther King in the early days of the civil rights struggle.

Bond reminded the crowd about the importance of being a registered voter.

Sarasota man arrested for pouring hot sauce on puppy

Sarasota, Florida -- A Sarasota man is behind bars after his girlfriend told Sarasota Police officers he poured hot sauce all over a 3-month old puppy named Gizmo.

Officers responded to a call around 1 a.m. on Sunday from a woman reporting that her boyfriend poured hot sauce all over her puppy. Gizmo the puppy, a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, was having a seizure adn began yelping. The woman's boyfriend Ephrian Myles, became annoyed by the yelping, grabbed Gizmo and poured a bottle of hot sauce all over Gizmo

Fight turns deadly at Sarasota nightclub

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fight at the Cheetah Lounge that resulted in one man's death.

A little after midnight on Saturday, deputies responded to the Cheetah Lounge where a man was unresponsive and not breathing. Deputies initiated life-saving efforts but the victim was pronounced dead.

So far Brad Standford has been arrested for manslaughter although other were involved in the fight. Witnesses are being questioned and the investigation is ongoing.

Sarasota Regatta sees record number of entries

Sarasota, Florida -- Rowers are setting up for the Sarasota Invitational Regatta at Nathan Benderson Park and organizers say it's the largest turn out in the event's five-year history.

"We have 692 entries. Most regattas don't get anywhere near that," said regatta co-director Norm Thetford. "It's one of the largest regattas in the state, if not the country. And I think this is certainly one of the best in terms of infrastructure. We want the rowers to have a first-class experience."

Bob's Boathouse misses deadline; code enforcment hearing next

Sarasota, Florida- When Bob's Boathouse opened on October 30th off South Tamiami Trail along Phillippi Creek it battled complaints from homeowners about loud music, bright lights and outdoor dining. Close to two dozen homeowners living across the Creek from Bob's Boathouse complained to county commissioners for several months.
