Woman dies after van rolls over her in driveway

NORTH PORT, Florida (AP) - Authorities say a 68-year-old woman died after she was hit and run over by a van in the driveway of her North Port home.

According to police, Judith Ann Jellema had parked her Nissan Quest in the driveway about 6 p.m. Wednesday. A short time later she asked her 13-year-old granddaughter to move the van, because it wasn't parked straight.

Chiropractor arrested for throwing urine on code enforcement officer

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a local chiropractor for allegedly throwing urine on a code enforcement officer.

Authorities say Craig Siegel owns a Siesta Key rental property that has been the subject of an ongoing rental scam investigation.

Woman found shot in her car in Sarasota

Sarasota, FL - The Sarasota Police Department is currently investigating an early morning shooting that occurred before 6am today.

A female was shot in the head and she is still alive. She was taken by Bay Flight medical helicopter to a local hospital. She and her car were found at 9th Street and Orange Avenue.

Three North Port Police officers suspended

North Port, Florida -- Three more officers with the North Port Police Department have been suspended.

This comes a month after a veteran officer was suspended for unknown reasons. Chief Vespia says the department will not talk about the case until the investigation is done.

CVS customer tackles would be robber

Sarasota, FL - On April 13th, 2014 officers responded to the CVS located at 2773 Fruitville Road in reference to an armed robbery.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, 65-year-old Freddie Johnson walked into the store with a bandanna over his face and threatened the clerk at the front of the store. He then walked to the pharmacy, in the back of the store, and demanded Oxycodone and Hydromorphone all while keeping his hand in his pocket implying he had a gun.
