Authorities monitor alligator stuck in drain

Sarasota, Florida -- Authorities in Sarasota are monitoring an alligator that has been stuck for several days.

WWSB says residents of the Meadows community in Sarasota found the alligator. He seems to stick his head out of the drain before retreating.

Sarasota, Florida -- Steve Smith worked as a clown for 43 years and now he's guiding young students at Sarasota's Circus Arts Conservatory down the same path.

"We teach them to respect the craft and to respect the art that dates back to 2100 BC," says Smith who's the creative director for Sarasota's Circus Arts Conservatory.

With the profession's longevity, Smith says there will never be a shortage for laughter.

"Humor is a tonic for the soul. We all need laughter, it's a relief valve."

Noise crackdown throughout Tampa Bay

Tampa, Florida -- Once upon a time, you could take to the streets of Tampa and have your teeth jarred loose by the booming bass coming from cars. In June, Tampa lawmakers outlawed vehicular music that could be heard within 50 feet.

Sarasota understands. Today, lawmakers there scheduled a public hearing in March to consider a tougher noise ordinance than the one that currently exists after complaints about loud music coming from Bob's Boathouse.

"It's hour after hour, day after day, week after week," said one resident.

Ellenton toddler dies in apparent accidental drowning

Ellenton, Florida -- Sarasota deputies are investigating the death of a toddler in Ellenton.

The Sheriff's Office says 19-month-old Ellery Jackson was taken to the hospital after her mother, Alyssa Jackson, found the girl unresponsive in the bath tub.  Ellery was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Jackson was reportedly bathing Ellery and her 3-year-old brother when she left the two to get something from another part of the house. 

When Jackson returned, she discovered Ellery was underwater and called 911.  

Sarasota Police Department investigating suspicious death

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a body found in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. 

Around 9:45 a.m. on February 20, police received calls of a woman's body found behind the Out Reach Ministry building. The cause of death is unknown at this time but it is being handled as suspicious. 

Detectives are asking anyone who saw something suspicious in this area in the last 24 hours to call the Sarasota Police Department.

Sarasota's tourism season up over last year

Sarasota, Florida -- All the cold weather up north is paying off for Sarasota tourism as officials report business is up.

Visit Sarasota officials say hotel occupancy in January increased by 12% and growing daily at an average of 4%.

December brought in 18% more in tourist development tax dollars over December 2012's record breaking figures.

Business owners also say this year is better than last year.

Sarasota County considers tougher noise ordinance

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Commissioners are moving forward with a new noise ordinance with a public hearing set for March 19.

Since Bob's Boathouse opened on October 30, many neighbor's along Phillippi Creek have been less than happy.
